UK Car Sales Drive Forward for the First Time in More than a Year
Car sales in Britain have increased for the first time since April last year boosted by the Government’s “cash for bangers” scheme. New car registrations rose 2.4% in July compared to last year. The scheme, which came into effect on 18 May, gives a £2,000 discount to those trading in a car over ten years old against a new model. Half of the scrappage discount comes from the government and the other half form the industry. The scheme is set to run until the end of February 2010 or until the £300m put in by the government has been spent.
